DVD-RW (Slimline) Disc Drive disc width

I was a bit disappointed with the Slimline Disc Drive, expecting it to be about 0.6" wide like the one I had. What arrived is 1.65" wide and takes only a 4.7" disc. There's an indentation the size of a 3.1" disc, but when I tried to insert it, it fell into the tower.
