Performance
The processor options of the Z440 are bountiful, and the processor you choose will highly affect the performance and the cost of the workstation configuration. The Intel C612 chipset in the Z440 chassis supports both the Intel Xeon 1600 series (v3 and v4) and the 2600 series. The 1600 series will get you up to 8 cores whereas the 2600 series will get all the way up to 14 cores. Speeds on these processors vary anywhere from 2.6 Ghz up to 3.7 Ghz, and some support Turbo Boost Technology and Hyper-threading if you want to push it to the limit. It’s up to you to decide which processor best fits your needs.
Memory
The Z440 is a single processor unit with 8 DIMM slots, this means when maxed out with 16GB RAM sticks, the unit can support up to a whopping 128 GB of RAM. The unit only supports the newer, more powerful DDR4 (PC4) RAM. DDR3 is not supported. Memory speeds top out at 2400MHz when equipped with an E5-2600 v4 processor. PCSP will pair RAM sticks in their most common configuration to save the customer on cost while also leaving room for further expansion. 8GB configurations will use two 4GB RAM sticks, 16GB configurations will use two 8GB sticks and so on.
Storage
The Z440 comes standard with two internal 3.5” drive bays for Hard Disk Drives or Solid State Drives. PCSP only uses these first two drive bays for HDD and SSD. There is a third 2.5” drive bay for SSD drives only, as well as two 5.25” bays for optical drives which can be converted to 3.5” bays with adapters and inserts. The extra 2.5” bay and 5.25” converted bays are optional and would need to be installed by the end user. PCSP will use SATA hard drives for machines ordered with HDD, but supported drive types for the Z440 include SATA, SAS, Hybrid HDD and SSD. There are also 6 PCI slots on the chassis for expansion and increased I/O range.
Management
This workstation supports both Windows and Linux operating systems. PCSP is a licensed Microsoft Refurbisher and only installs Windows Pro and Home operating systems. When a machine is purchased with Windows, PCSP will install the OS free of charge. Per our agreement with Microsoft, we are not able to send out install media and a product key, we must install the OS ourselves.
