The Dell PowerEdge R650 is a next-gen 1U rack server built for high-density compute and versatile enterprise workloads. This configuration supports 8 front-access SAS/SATA bays, controlled by a hardware-based fPERC RAID controller, offering flexible RAID options and data protection for traditional storage needs.
Key Differences from the R640:
- More Memory Capacity: The R650 offers 32 DIMM slots versus the R640's 24, enabling up to 8TB of DDR4 memory. This allows for improved memory channel utilization, better scalability, and more headroom for virtualization, in-memory databases, and analytics.
- PCIe and CPU Upgrades: The R650 supports 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors and PCIe 4.0, doubling bandwidth over the R640’s PCIe 3.0, and allowing faster throughput for networking or accelerator cards.
- Improved Management and Power Efficiency: With Dell OpenManage Enterprise and Power Manager, the R650 offers better thermal performance, automated monitoring, and reduced long-term energy costs.
This SAS/SATA-focused R650 is optimized for deployments needing high-capacity RAID storage, memory-intensive performance, and scalable infrastructure, all in a 1U design.
