Usually not — most switches check the vendor coding on the module and reject or ignore foreign optics. Buy transceivers coded for the device they plug into: the switch brand on the switch side, the NIC brand on the server side. Unsure? Tell us both ends of the link and we will confirm before you order.
Generally yes — most SFP+ ports accept a 1G SFP module and run that lane at 1G. The reverse does not work: a 10G SFP+ module will not run in a 1G-only SFP port. Check your switch documentation for the supported step-down combinations.
Inside a rack, or up to roughly 3–5 meters, a DAC cable is the cheapest and simplest link — no separate transceivers needed. Between racks or rooms, use SR optics over multimode fiber; for kilometer-scale runs, LR over single-mode.
Every module is link-tested before listing. If a transceiver arrives dead or will not come up in matched hardware, 90-day returns cover it at our expense. In-stock modules ship within 1–2 business days.
