Which HP Z workstation is best for CAD or video editing?

For parametric CAD the single-socket Z4 G4 with a high-clock Xeon W and a professional GPU is the usual seat, because most modeling runs on one core. Video editing, rendering and simulation scale across cores: the dual-socket Z6 G4 and Z8 G4 add cores, memory and GPU room. The Z2 suits 2D drafting and office-plus work, and the Z440 and Z840 are the budget E5-era options.

Do HP Z workstations support Windows 11?

The Z2 G4 and later and the Z4, Z6 and Z8 G4 and later meet the requirements, and HP lists driver support for them. The Z240, Z440, Z640 and Z840 do not: their Core 6th/7th-gen, Xeon E3 v5/v6 and Xeon E5 v3/v4 processors are not on Microsoft's supported list, so we list them with Windows 10 Pro or without an operating system. Our Windows 11 page lists eligible builds.

Can I add a GPU later?

Yes, within the limits of the chassis. Full-size towers take full-height, double-width professional cards, and the ceiling is usually the power supply and its PCIe power cables rather than the slot, so check the PSU wattage on the listing before planning a high-draw card. Small-form-factor models take low-profile cards only. A card we fit during the build is covered by the system warranty; a card bought on its own carries a 90-day warranty.
