The Lenovo ThinkStation P520 is Lenovo's mainstream tower on Intel Xeon W-2100 — up to 18 cores, ECC memory, and dual-GPU room, the direct rival to the T5820 and Z4 G4.
The P520 is Lenovo’s single-socket Xeon W tower and one of the best-value used workstations on the market: a 33-litre chassis with eight registered ECC memory slots, two full-power x16 graphics slots, room for nine NVMe drives and a Platinum-rated power supply. It is the machine we recommend most often to CAD, GIS and design buyers who want workstation reliability without paying for two sockets they will never load. Each unit is configured to order, tested under load, and shipped with a free 1-year warranty covering parts, labor and shipping.

| Form factor | 33-litre tower — 6.5″ W × 18.1″ D × 17.3″ H, up to 52.9 lb (24 kg) fully loaded |
|---|---|
| Processor | One Intel Xeon W, up to 140 W — up to 18 cores at 2.3 GHz, or up to 4.0 GHz on 4-core parts |
| Chipset | Intel C422 |
| Memory | 8 sockets across 4 channels, registered ECC DDR4-2666 — up to 256 GB using eight 32 GB RDIMMs |
| Expansion slots | Two PCIe 3.0 x16 (75 W, double-width capable), one PCIe 3.0 x8 open-ended, two PCIe 3.0 x4, one legacy PCI |
| Graphics | Up to two professional cards; a dual Quadro P6000 configuration requires the 900 W supply |
| Drive bays | Up to four internal 3.5″/2.5″ bays (two standard) plus two 5.25″ flex bays for optical, card readers or a front-access storage enclosure |
| NVMe | Up to nine M.2 PCIe NVMe drives — two onboard, the rest via x16 quad and x4 single adapters, with RAID options |
| Storage controller | Intel SATA 6 Gb/s with RAID 0/1/5/10; optional Broadcom 9440-8i or 9460-16i for SAS |
| Networking | Intel i219LM Gigabit Ethernet with Wake-on-LAN |

The P520 ships with a fixed — not modular — supply, either 690 W or 900 W, and it is not a five-minute swap. Lenovo requires the 900 W unit for the heaviest dual-card graphics configurations. If there is any chance you will add a second professional GPU later, buy the 900 W chassis now. Our build-to-order listings state the supply in the title for exactly this reason.
P520 supply is steady, and the mix skews towards Xeon W-2133 six-core machines — the sweet spot of clock speed and price for single-user CAD — alongside W-2123 entry builds and W-2145 eight-core towers for heavier modelling. We also see W-2200 series parts such as the W-2225, W-2235 and W-2245 come through. Memory typically runs 16–128 GB with occasional 256 GB builds; graphics are usually an NVIDIA Quadro P620, P2000 or P4000. Windows 11 Pro is the common image and bare units are listed when available.

256 GB — eight 32 GB registered ECC DDR4-2666 modules across four channels. Unbuffered desktop memory is not supported. Actual running speed is capped by the installed Xeon W, so check the processor before buying faster modules.
Everything listed here is the full-size ThinkStation P520 — the 33-litre tower with eight DIMM sockets and two x16 graphics slots described in the table above. The P520c is a separate Lenovo model with its own specification and parts; if that is what you need, tell us and we will check availability rather than guess.
Yes — there are two full-length x16 slots rated at 75 W each and capable of taking double-width cards. The limit is the power supply: heavy dual-GPU configurations need the 900 W unit rather than the 690 W one, and the supply is fixed rather than modular.
Up to four 3.5″ or 2.5″ disks internally, plus two 5.25″ flex bays that can carry a front-access storage enclosure. On the NVMe side, two M.2 sockets sit on the board and adapter cards take the total to nine drives with RAID support.
Call or email us. Configured units carry a free 1-year warranty that includes parts, labor and shipping both ways, extendable to five years at checkout; typical turnaround once a machine reaches our facility is about five business days. Returns are open for 90 days from purchase (RMA and restocking terms).
