Used Dell Servers in Stock, Generation by Generation

PowerEdge is the deepest single line we carry. As of August 2026 roughly 330 Dell configurations are in stock here, of which around 115 are build-to-order chassis awaiting your parts list. Almost all of it is rack-mount; tower PowerEdge units are a handful at any given moment. Where the stock actually sits:

  • 14th generation — about 110 listings, the largest block. R640 dominates, with R440 behind it.
  • 13th generation — roughly 95 listings, mostly R630 and R730/R730xd. The cheapest route to a production-capable box.
  • 15th and 16th generation — around 55 listings combined, led by R750 and the newer R660/R760 family.
  • Four-socket iron — a persistent bench of R930 for in-memory databases and consolidation projects.
  • Pricing — finished units run from about $105 for a barebones chassis to roughly $20,000 for a maxed current-generation node, with the middle half between $1,100 and $2,950.

Figures counted August 2026 and quoted as bands on purpose — PowerEdge stock and pricing shift week to week. The listing grid above this text is the live source.

How to Read a PowerEdge Model Number

Dell's naming is systematic once you know the grammar, and it saves a lot of scrolling:

  • First letterR is rack, T is tower, C is a dense multi-node chassis.
  • Second digit — socket count. R6xx is one or two sockets in 1U; R7xx is the two-socket 2U line; R9xx is four-socket.
  • Third digit — the generation. R630 is 13th gen, R640 is 14th, R650 is 15th, R660 is 16th.
  • Trailing 5 — the AMD variant. R6515, R7515, R6525 and R7625 are EPYC platforms; see the EPYC shelf for the whole set.
  • xd / xs suffixesxd means extra drive capacity (R730xd, R740xd), xs means a cost-reduced build of the same generation.

If you would rather filter by rack height than by number, jump to 1U, 2U, the full rack server shelf, PowerEdge towers, or the accelerator-equipped GPU servers.

Drives and Backplanes: the Detail That Bites

More returns start here than anywhere else. A PowerEdge chassis is built around a fixed backplane, and the bay count in the listing title is not decoration:

  • SFF versus LFF — an 8-bay or 24-bay 2.5″ chassis will not take 3.5″ drives, and a 12-bay LFF chassis will only take 2.5″ media with the correct adapter tray.
  • Trays are model-specific — 13th-generation caddies do not fit 14th-generation backplanes. Our tray finder matches the right caddy to the chassis.
  • Controller matters — H330, H730 and H740 differ in cache and rebuild behaviour, and NVMe backplanes bypass the RAID controller entirely. Size the array first with the RAID calculator.

What Happens to a PowerEdge Before It Ships

The difference between a used Dell server from an auction listing and one from this warehouse is process, not vocabulary:

  • The chassis is stripped and cleaned, failed or suspect parts are replaced, and the unit is rebuilt to the configuration on your order.
  • Drives are wiped, firmware and iDRAC are brought to a known state, and the assembled server is burned in under load before it is packed.
  • Configured servers ship with a free 1-year warranty covering parts, labour and shipping, extendable to five years at checkout.
  • Returns run 90 days with an RMA; a restocking fee applies where a unit is returned in error or tests as operational.
  • Free ground shipping on orders above $35 within the contiguous US, with same-day dispatch available on orders placed before 1:00 pm EST.

Fleet and Refresh Orders

Matched PowerEdge nodes for a cluster, a spare-parts pool for an existing fleet, or a model we do not list — all of it goes through the quote desk. A specialist confirms the spec within one business day and returns a detailed quote in 24–48 hours, with a written competing offer matched. You can also compare against our HPE ProLiant stock or the wider refurbished server catalogue before deciding.

More PowerEdge Models

Nearly every PowerEdge that leaves this warehouse has a PERC controller sitting in front of the drives, so the array layout is part of the order, not an afterthought. What is a RAID array? walks through RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 with the capacity cost of each, and the server buying guide covers the rest of the spec sheet in the same order we ask about it on a quote.

Used Dell Server FAQ

Do these come with an iDRAC Enterprise licence?

iDRAC level varies by unit and is stated on the product page where it applies. If remote console and virtual media are a requirement for your deployment, confirm it with us before ordering rather than assuming — we can specify it on a build-to-order configuration.

Are rails included with a used Dell server?

Rails appear as a selectable option on configurable listings and are called out in the description on finished units. Sliding versus static and the rack depth you are mounting into both matter, so tell us the rack if you are unsure.

Can I run a newer Dell OS or firmware bundle on an older generation?

Within a generation, yes — we ship units on a known firmware baseline. Across generations, support windows differ: 13th-generation platforms are past their newest bundles, which is part of why they cost what they do. If a specific hypervisor or firmware level is mandatory, raise it before you order.

What is the difference between R730 and R730xd?

Same 2U two-socket platform, different storage geometry. The xd variant carries substantially more drive bays and is the one to buy for storage nodes, backup targets and software-defined storage; the plain R730 is the compute-oriented build.

Do you sell PowerEdge spare parts as well as whole servers?

Yes — caddies, controllers, memory, power supplies and rails are all stocked separately. Note that the 1-year system warranty covers configured units; parts bought loose are sold under our return policy instead.
